Empowering Youth: An Ethiopian Diaspora Volunteer’s Journey
‘‘Volunteering with Ethiopian Diaspora, Inc. and People to People (P2P) has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. As a diaspora living in the United States, it had long been a dream of mine to travel to Ethiopia and learn how to best support underserved populations. Through my involvement with Ethiopian Diapora, Inc. and People to People. I had the privilege of leading an interactive educational discussion on health topics such as HIV/AIDS and Personal Health and Hygiene practices with orphaned youth in Addis Ababa. It was incredibly enlightening to use this platform to share knowledge and dispel misconceptions, foster dialogue and empower these youth with essential health information and skills. Witnessing the engagement and receptiveness of the youth reinforced the significance of nonprofit initiatives in promoting holistic wellness within underserved communities. This experience has profoundly deepened my understanding of the complex challenges facing Ethiopia but has also ignited a lasting commitment to continue contributing to its advancement. I am grateful for the opportunity to play a minor role in the larger collective efforts to uplift, empower and advocate for underserved populations in Ethiopia. This is an experience I will always hold dear, and hope to continue collaborating with fellow diaspora members and local stakeholders to further the positive change and contribute to a brighter future for Ethiopia and its people.’’ Eden Tejeji (Ethiopian Diaspora).
